Small Cases
These are raw materials -- a collection of historical and contemporary photographs -- of people, places, and objects that are part of an auto-fictional novel/memoir/photobook. Set in Poland, Russia, Germany and Canada in the twentieth century, this tells a family history through a history of objects and buildings. I trace a complicated genealogy through ruined homesteads, abandoned cars, cartes de viste, old suitcases, doilies and embroidery, hoarded obsolete paper currency. These and other objects tell stories about war, land, dispossession and immigration, about ruins and uprooting, inheritance and identity.
